Princeton Lady Vikings top latest girls basketball power rankings

The Princeton Lady Vikings become the third team to top this season's power rankings while Campbell County enters the top 10.

The Greater Cincinnati girls high school basketball season is quickly picking up steam as multiple teams are getting high-quality wins each week.

Conference matchups have dominated the season so far but several teams have the chance to really bolster their resumes at the Classic in the Country and Classic in the City showcases this weekend.

Here is this week's top 10 citywide power rankings. All records and stats are updated through Jan. 12.

Next in line: Seton, Springboro, Purcell Marian, Lakota West, Mason, Bishop Brossart, Holy Cross, East Central, Ryle, Loveland, Highlands, Oak Hills

10. Campbell County Camels

Record: 10-2

Last week: NR

Analysis: The Camels have stampeded into the new year with wins over Bishop Brossart, Grant County and North Laurel. The name of their game is 3-pointers and defense; they average 9.2 made triples per game and have held six opponents under 50 points.

This week: vs. Scott (Jan. 16), at Franklin County (Jan. 19)

9. Notre Dame Pandas

Record: 10-3

Last week: 9

Analysis: The 3-point shot has given and taken away for the Pandas this season. In each of their three losses, they've made five or fewer triples. Two of their three losses have come against teams in the top five of the latest media poll. Remaining games against ranked teams include Frederick Douglass, George Rogers Clark, Campbell County, Sacred Heart and a rematch with top-ranked Assumption.

This week: at Seton (Jan. 15), vs. Frederick Douglass (Jan. 17), at West Jessamine (Jan. 19)

8. Walnut Hills Eagles

Record: 11-3

Last week: 7

Analysis: The Eagles have fallen off the pace in the race for the Eastern Cincinnati Conference title but will still be a threat in the postseason. Their three losses have produced their three lowest-scoring games of the season.

This week: at Little Miami (Jan. 15), at Turpin (Jan. 17), vs. Kings (Jan. 19)

7. Simon Kenton Lady Pioneers

Brynli Pernell (0) is Simone Kenton's all-time leader for made three-pointers. She is averaging 2.6 made triples per game this season.

Record: 18-1

Last week: 8

Analysis: The Lady Pioneers have not only beaten every in-state opponent on their schedule, but they haven't allowed more than 55 points to a team from the Bluegrass state, and that was the first game of the season against Ryle. Their trip to Bishop Brossart should be a high-level contest.

This week: vs. Walton-Verona (Jan. 15), at Bishop Brossart (Jan. 17), vs. Williamstown (Jan. 19)

6. Cooper Jaguars

Record: 11-3

Last week: 5

Analysis: The Jaguars have won nine of their last 10 games. They've played just three games since a busy holiday schedule that saw them play in two multi-game showcases. Cooper should be well-rested for four games in the next 10 days before facing Taylor County on Jan. 24 and Simon Kenton on Jan. 27.

This week: at Scott (Jan. 13), at Ryle (Jan. 15)

5. Mount Notre Dame Cougars

Record: 12-0

Last week: 6

Analysis: It's a busy week for the Cougars with four games in six days. If they emerge unscathed, it will go down as their most impressive stretch of the season. Nine of MND's 12 wins have come by double digits.

This week: vs. Seton (Jan. 13), at Ursuline (Jan. 15), vs. Berea Midpark at Classic in the Country (Jan. 17), vs. Brush at Classic in the Country (Jan. 19)

4. Milford Eagles

Record: 12-1

Last week: 3

Analysis: Milford, Winton Woods and West Clermont are all bunched at the top of the ECC with one league loss. The Eagles will be involved in two of the three biggest remaining league games. They travel to Winton Woods on Feb. 2 and host West Clermont on Feb. 18.

This week: vs. Turpin (Jan. 15), vs. Magnificat at Classic in the Country (Jan. 18), vs. Massillon Washington at Classic in the Country (Jan. 19)

3. Winton Woods Warriors

Winton Woods' Trenity Armstrong had 13 points off the bench and made four free throws to seal the Warriors' recent win over West Clermont.

Record: 11-2

Last week: 4

Analysis: The Warriors picked up their biggest win of the season, taking down West Clermont with an impressive second-half defensive effort. It's the type of win that could propel them to an impressive showing at the Classic in the Country, where they'll face the No. 1 recruit in the country in Spire Academy's Saniyah Hall.

This week: vs. Kings (Jan. 15), vs. Olmsted Falls at Classic in the Country (Jan. 18), vs. Spire Academy at Classic in the Country (Jan. 19)

2. West Clermont

Record: 11-1

Last week: 2

Analysis: The Wolves performed well in a tough road environment at Winton Woods but couldn't quite get the job done in their first loss of the season. The rest of the month provides the toughest stretch of the season. Can they properly apply the lessons they learned in defeat?

This week: at Loveland (Jan. 15), vs. Fairmont at Classic in the Country (Jan. 19), vs. Tecumseh (Michigan) at Classic in the Country (Jan. 19)

1. Princeton Vikings

Record: 8-1

Last week: 2

Analysis: Princeton is cruising right along in the Greater Miami Conference. Their next real test will probably come against Springboro on Jan. 28, followed by St. Vincent St. Mary on Jan. 31. The only other undefeated team in the Greater Miami Conference is Lakota West; the Firebirds and Vikings don't play until Feb. 4.

This week: at Mason (Jan. 14), vs. Oak Hills, (Jan. 17)
