Manchester United have been kept busy in the January transfer market, especially with regards to the academy.

Lots of players are expected to go out on loan, while a few have been recalled with a view to find new temporary homes for them.

There has also been a permanent departure in the form of Sam Mather, who left the Red Devils for Kayserispor in Turkiye.

The Turkish side had come very close to signing him in the summer, only for the deal to collapse at the very last moment.

Sam Mather joins Kayserispor

The team from Kayseri have finally managed to sign their man, staving off competition from MLS side New England Revolution in the process.

There was also interest from Qatar and UAE, but the former FA Youth Cup winner chose to join the Anatolian Star.

The forward has finally broken his silence after leaving his boyhood club. Writing on social media, the 21-year-old said, “After 14 years my time at Manchester United has come to an end.

“I would like to thank all the staff and players who have helped me become the person and player I am today.

Note to the fans

“I will always be grateful for my time here and wish the club all the best. On a personal note it’s time for me to move forward and I can’t wait to get started!”

"

He had clearly outgrown academy football, and played only six times for the U21s this campaign, registering two assists.

The Salford-born ace was called up to senior training this season, but he knew no chances would be coming under Ruben Amorim, and hence he decided to jump ship.

The club are yet to announce his departure, and there is no clarity on the fee nor on whether the 20-time English league champions included a sell-on clause and buyback clause.
