The Bucs will interview Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka for their offensive coordinator job.

Kafka, 38, has ties to Tampa Bay after spending one season as the Bucs backup quarterback in 2014.

With the Giants, Kafka had been the offensive coordinator since 2022 but took over play-calling duties from head coach Brian Daboll last season.

He also has interviewed for the Giants head coaching job but is considered a longshot to retain that position.

Under Kafka, the Giants went 2-5 after he took over a 2-8 team when Daboll was dismissed. The Giants missed a lot of key players due to injury, but they averaged 24 points per game during their last seven with Kafka still calling the plays.

In fact, the Giants finished the 2025 season with wins over the Raiders and Cowboys, scoring 34 points behind rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.

A quarterback at Northwestern, Kafka was with seven NFL teams from 2010-2015.

He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Northwestern in 2016, then joined Andy Reid’s NFL staff with the Chiefs. He worked his way up from an offensive quality control coach to quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator.

Kafka did a good job with Dart, the first-round pick from Ole Miss who struggled staying healthy and sustained numerous concussions.

Dart went 4-8 as a starter and passed for 2,272 yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions. But he also made a lot of plays with his legs, rushing for 487 yards and nine touchdowns.

Since firing offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard last Wednesday, the Bucs have held virtual interviews with former Titans head coach Brian Callahan, Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, Lions quarterbacks coach and former Stanford head coach David Shaw, and Cardinals quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork.
