This week's nominees are from Elmira, Harrisburg, North Eugene, Sheldon and Springfield basketball and Harrisburg wrestling.

As the high school winter sports season ramps up, athletes throughout the Eugene-Springfield area have continued to deliver outstanding performances.

Every week, you get to vote for the Register-Guard's Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Active Chiropractic.

Athlete of the Week

Dakota Davis, North Eugene basketball

North Eugene sophomore guard Dakota Davis scored 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, pulled down five rebounds and grabbed four steals Jan. 6 to help the Highlanders to a 46-18 win over Roseburg.

Ava Green, Elmira basketball

Elmira senior guard Ava Green scored 25 points and buried five 3-pointers Jan. 5 to lead the Falcons to a 49-38 win over Rainier.

One day later, in a 63-27 win over Douglas, Green scored 18 points.

Brooklyn Green, Sheldon basketball

Sheldon freshman guard Brooklyn Green racked up 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals Jan. 6 to help the Irish to a 52-39 home win over Lake Oswego.

Madde McKibben, Harrisburg basketball

Harrisburg junior guard Madde McKibben scored a team-high 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds Jan. 6 to lead the Class 3A No. 6 Eagles to a 42-32 road win over Class 2A No. 8 Central Linn.

Two days earlier, in a 60-23 home win over Kennedy, McKibben stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, three assists, three rebounds and six steals.

Darissa Romero-Ah Sam, Springfield basketball

Springfield senior guard Darissa Romero-Ah Sam scored 12 points, grabbed three steals and racked up nine deflections Jan. 6 to help the Class 5A No. 2 Millers to a 57-52 road win over Class 4A No. 6 Cascade.

Paxton Steele, Harrisburg wrestling

Harrisburg junior Paxton Steele won the 110-pound bracket at the 19-team Sutherlin Tournament on Jan. 3. Steele, who won all four of her matches by fall, pinned Thurston standout Rosalina Montes in the championship bout in 1 minute, 23 seconds.
