Kentucky vs. Mississippi State game thread and pregame reading

The Cats need this one. Will they get it done?

The Kentucky Wildcats will take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday night in Lexington. Game time is set for 8:30 PM ET on the SEC Network. Kentucky is a 10.5-point favorite.

The Cats are now 9-6 on the season following two straight embarrassing losses. The Cats looked like they might be headed in the right direction before the new year, but this season is all but over at this point.

It turns out, health wasn’t this team’s issue. It was just poorly constructed. Mark Pope’s squad has been healthy for several games now, and nothing has changed. In fact, I think they may be getting worse.

To make matters worse, Jayden Quaintance is sitting out tonight’s game with what’s being called “knee swelling.” That’s led to many wondering if we’ve seen JQ play his last game in blue and white.

As for the Bulldogs, they’re 10-5 on the season with some bad losses. They’ve beaten up on a couple of bad SEC teams, but they’re not a great team. However, they do have the SEC’s leading scorer and one of the best scorers in the country in Josh Hubbard. He’s averaging 23 points per game overall and 34 points per game through two SEC games.

At this point, we’ll take anything. A win’s a win, and the Cats need to win A LOT to even have a chance at the NCAA Tournament. This game could be the start of a turnaround, or it could be the latest indictment against this team’s postseason hopes.
