Radu has a new suitor in Serie A.
We’ve talked a lot about Radu Dragusin’s “agent” yapping about a potential move for his client this month now that he’s returned from a serious knee injury that has kept him out of the Spurs side since early 2025. The biggest link had been a loan to Fiorentina (likely executed by current Spurs and future La Viola Director of Football Fabio Paratici), but according to Nicolo Schira, there’s a new player in the mix — AS Roma.
Gazetta dello Sport (via SportWitness) goes even further, saying that Roma have opened negotiations with Spurs and that the move has “gained momentum in recent hours.” It also states that Fiorentina would not be Dragusin’s first choice for a low destination, which makes sense since at the moment La Viola look destined to be relegated to Serie B if they don’t make a serious turnaround this spring.
It’s not exactly clear whether Spurs would be interested in letting Dragusin leave. They’ve already loaned out fourth choice CB Kota Takai to Gladbach this spring, and letting Dragusin go also would potentially leave Spurs thin in central defense with only Kevin Danso and Ben Davies available as natural position backups. And maybe that’s okay, unless one or more of Cuti Romero and Micky van de Ven pick up injuries of their own in the coming days and weeks.
Roma is an interesting choice, though. Serie A is a little bit slower, and the style of play probably fits Dragusin better than at Spurs. I remain somewhat compelled by arguments (entirely speculative and without proof) that Radu could be a better fit under Thomas Frank’s tactics than under Ange Postecoglou where Dragusin frequently got in trouble trying to play out of the back. That’s a pretty thin branch on which to hang your hat. The bigger question is — if Spurs are ready to let Dragusin go, would they consider picking up another reserve defender sometime this month? Spurs already have a lot of business they hope to do in this window.
