Just not happening.
Inigo Martinez has laughed off suggestions that he could make a shock return to Barcelona in the January transfer window.
The defender moved from Barcelona to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in the summer and there has been talk he could be tempted back to Catalunya.
The question has now been put to Martinez and he offered up the following response in a chat with Gerard Romero.
“I can’t go back to Barcelona, it’s impossible for Laporta to spend that much money,” he replied with a laugh. “Honestly, I’m very happy here. Of course I miss Barcelona; it was my best professional year, I knew what it was like to experience the Barça spirit. Obviously, I’ll have to watch from afar. I won’t be able to be there [Super Cup final] because we play the next day.”
Martinez also spoke about Barcelona’s win over Athletic Club and was surprise by the way the Basque side capitulated against the Catalans.
“I was surprised because Athletic’s identity is to press for the full 90 minutes,” he added.
“They held on for the first 15 or 20, but then collapsed and couldn’t react. Barça fell short at the beginning, but they raised the white flag.”
Barcelona now go on to play Real Madrid in Sunday’s final in Jeddah.
