Eagles Injury Report: Lane Johnson limited again, Trent Williams returns to 49ers practice

Thursday news and updates.

The Philadelphia Eagles issued their second official injury report in advance of their Wild Card playoff home game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Eagles listed two players under DID NOT PARTICIPATE: Landon Dickerson and Brett Toth.

The Eagles have commonly rested Dickerson on Thursdays since he’s been playing through injury all year long. He’ll be ready to start at left guard on Sunday.

While Toth did not practice, he was seen watching the action from the sideline. This development points to him progressing through the concussion protocol, though it still seems like he’s on track to miss Sunday’s game. He could be ready to suit up for the Divisional Round next week, if applicable.

The Eagles listed four players under LIMITED PARTICIPATION: Lane Johnson, Jalen Carter, Dallas Goedert, and Grant Calcaterra.

Johnson, Carter, and Goedert were limited for the second day in a row.

Johnson seemed to be moving well during the media-attended portion of practice. It seems like he’s going to suit up on Sunday. We’ll find out more about his playing status on Friday’s final injury report.

The thinking here is that the Eagles are managing Carter and Goedert to help get them to Sunday.

Calcaterra was upgraded from DNP on Wednesday to limited on Thursday. Eagles fans aren’t exactly dying to see him play but he might be out there as the No. 2 tight end.

The Eagles listed four players under FULL PARTICIPATION: Nakobe Dean, Marcus Epps, Jaelan Phillips, and Azeez Ojulari.

Dean and Epps were upgraded from limited on Wednesday to full go on Thursday. They’re ready to play, which is good news.

Phillips and Ojulari were full go for the second day in a row. Phillips will start and Ojulari will likely remain on injured reserve for now.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS INJURY REPORT (THURSDAY)

The 49ers have three changes from their Wednesday injury report:

  1. Christian McCaffrey was upgraded to full participation after resting on Wednesday.
  2. Trent Williams was upgraded to limited after missing Wednesday’s practice due to his hamstring injury.
  3. Luke Gifford was downgraded to not practicing after being limited on Wednesday.

Williams practicing is obviously the big development for the Niners. Guessing the 37-year-old is going to try to play through his hamstring injury. If he does suit up, we’ll see if he can make it through the game. Always risk of a hammy flaring back up.

Gifford’s absence points to the 49ers being down to Eric Kendricks and Garret Wallow starting at off-ball linebacker. Those two players have combined for 90 defensive snaps played for San Francisco this season. So, yeah, the 49ers are really thin at linebacker.

In other news, second-year wide receiver Ricky Pearsal didn’t practice for the second day in a row. He’s on track to miss Sunday’s game, which is bad news for the 49ers’ offense. Pearsal is their best big play threat at receiver.

We’ll find out more about the 49ers’ injury situation when they issue their final injury report on Friday afternoon. It’ll also be worth paying attention to any roster moves they may or may not make prior to Saturday’s 4:00 PM deadline.
