Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has weighed in on the future of Marcus Rashford, making it clear that he would like to see the forward return to Old Trafford once his loan spell at Barcelona comes to an end.

Rashford’s situation has become increasingly uncertain following managerial changes at Manchester United.

With Ruben Amorim no longer at the club, questions are being asked about whether United will push for Rashford’s return or reassess his long-term future away from the Premier League.

Since arriving at Barcelona last summer, Rashford has enjoyed something of a revival.

Crucial player for Flick

Under Hansi Flick, the England international has grown in confidence and importance, contributing with key goals and assists.

“I hope Marcus comes back because he’s a special player,” he began as quoted by SPORT.

“I don’t know what happened between Marcus and Ruben, but I don’t think you can deny his talent.”

Hargreaves shared his opinion on the pressure Rashford faced during his time at United, arguing that too much responsibility was placed on him too early.

He said, “I don’t think Marcus should have been in a position where he had to carry the weight of everything.

“In our team, he would have been third or fourth, so he wouldn’t have had to take on all the responsibility, because a lot of it would have been taken off his shoulders.”

As of today, Barcelona have not made any decision regarding Rashford’s continuity, although it must be remembered that they do have an option of keeping him on a permanent deal for €30 million if everyone is on the same page.
