Miami Hurricanes Injury Report: Vrbo Fiesta Bowl College Football Playoff Semifinal vs Ole Miss

Some potential good news for Miami on this week’s injury report

We’re back with the injury report for Miami’s College Football Playoff Semifinal game against Ole Miss.

Miami Head Coach Mario Cristobal was asked about injury updates during his standard weekly presser, held on Saturday this week, but didn’t really give anything concrete. That left the internet sleuths to screenshots from practice videos and rumors up until this point.

The initial report came out Monday night at 8:10pm. And with no further ado:

There are a couple of big items here.

First, CB O.J. Frederique is probable. That’s massive, as he was taken from the field on a stretcher in the Cotton Bowl, and seen afterwards on crutches and then a walking boot.

Next, CB Damari Brown and DT Ahmad Moten Sr. are both questionable. Moten was the victim of a nasty chop block against Ohio State (penalty not called, by the way) and is nursing an ankle in the aftermath. Brown had been in a walking boot for several weeks and missed both of the previous CFP games, but returned to practice this week as he fights to return to game action.

Also, DE Cole McConathy II is questionable after being out for multiple weeks. He was a a rotation DE as a true freshman and is redshirting this year, but with the ability for players to maintain their redshirts and play in postseason games, McConathy could return and see time in the game against Ole Miss as Miami rotates players to combat the Rebels’ offensive tempo.

LB Malik Bryant and WR Daylyn Upshaw are both out for the year.

On the Ole Miss side, starting RB Kewan Lacy has been battling a shoulder injury, and is listed as probable. So are starting TE Caleb Odom, TE Dae’Quan Wright, WR Cayden Lee, and CB Dante Core.

DT Kam Fanklin — a one time Miami recruiting target — is listed as questionable, and would be a blow to the interior of Ole Miss’s defensive line if he’s limited or unable to play.

And several players are listed as out for Ole Miss as well.

We are deep into the CFP season, so everybody is dinged up to some extent. This is a relatively low number of players on the injury reports for both teams, and I’m sure they’ll do everything in their power to be available for the Fiesta Bowl on Thursday night. We’ll have updates as the week progresses.

The Miami Hurricanes face the Ole Miss Rebels in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl at 7:30pm Eastern on Thursday night. The game will be televised on ESPN, and the remaining suite of ESPN channels for secondary broadcasts as well.
