Manchester United staff were left perplexed about spotting the reaction of Ruben Amorim and his collaborators following their sacking.

The Portuguese tactician only lasted 14 months in Carrington before being consumed by the insurmountable pressure that accompanies working for the most popular club in the world.

Amorim’s relationship with the club’s directors also disintegrated in recent weeks as the end drew near. Many felt that the 40-year-old sealed his own fate with his major outburst following Sunday’s draw against Leeds at Elland Road, when he explicitly expressed his dissatisfaction with the club’s trajectory, while reiterating his desire to be addressed as the club’s ‘Manager’, and not the ‘Head Coach’.

Ruben Amorim almost invited his own sacking

According to the Daily Mail journalist Chris Wheeler, Amorim’s shocking statements were indeed the final straw in his strained relationship with the hierarchy.

Therefore, INEOS inevitably wielded the axe on Monday morning, replacing Amorim with Man Utd’s U18 coach Darren Fletcher, who will act as caretaker.

Wheeler also reveals another interesting detail that occurred at Carrington this morning. The Man Utd staff were reportedly surprised to see the Portuguese manager and his technical collaborators leaving the training ground laughing and joking.

While this reaction may be astonishing at first, it becomes somewhat comprehensible when considering all the pressure Amorim and his staff went through, especially in the final weeks, when the head coach was seldom seen smiling. Wheeler describes Amorim as a ‘free man’.

Based on the events of the last couple of days, many believe that the former Sporting Club manager was craving for his own sacking, as he no longer felt comfortable at the club. On Sunday, the manager was almost daring the directors to pull the trigger, and they obliged.
