Syracuse football: Orange to play Colgate in 2028

New year, new opponent on the future schedule for ’Cuse.

The focus right now for Syracuse Orange football fans is the offseason and roster building for 2026, but it appears we do have some new scheduling news to share.

According to the Colgate Athletics website, Syracuse is set to host the Raiders in a non-conference game versus in 2028. That contest, which will be the 70th all-time meeting between both teams, will be at the JMA Wireless Dome.

This would be the third and final confirmed non-con for that season. The Orange are also currently scheduled to have home non-conference games against Penn State and UConn.

Syracuse last played Colgate in September, a 66-24 home win for the Orange. Syracuse is 33-31-5 all-time versus the Raiders dating back to 1891 and have won 18 straight in the series.

Keep in mind the Orange and the rest of the ACC will be moving to a nine-game conference schedule across all 17 of its members beginning in the 2027 season. Rollout will start in the upcoming year. Syracuse will be one of 12 teams in the ACC playing nine conference games in 2026.

Something notable to watch for the 2026 season: Syracuse is already on paper scheduled to play four non-con games, according to the Syracuse football website. Those opponents include homes games versus New Hampshire, Toledo and Notre Dame plus a road game versus UConn.

As part of this new schedule transition, the ACC is moving programs to play ten Power Four opponents per year (writer’s note: we assume Notre Dame, though not in a conference, clearly meets that criteria). Expect one of those other three games to possibly be pushed to a later year. Syracuse football does have dates on its future scheduling page set for New Hampshire (September 5) and Toledo (September 19).

The ACC plans to release the full 2026 schedule for Syracuse and the rest of the conference later this month. We know Syracuse will play California, Clemson, Louisville and SMU at home and will travel to Boston College, Pitt, North Carolina, NC State and Virginia in 2026.

Beyond 2026, here is the current list of future non-con opponents for the Orange for the rest of the decade:

  • 2027: at Penn State, at UConn, vs. Fordham
  • 2028: vs. Penn State, vs. UConn, vs. Colgate
  • 2029: vs. Morgan State, at Toledo, vs. Notre Dame
