Chelsea winger could be stuck in transfer hell until 2027 after latest rejection

We’re trying to distract ourselves from another catastrophe at Chelsea, after the club and Enzo Maresca parted ways this week.

One person who won’t be too concerned with that news is Raheem Sterling. The winger was put into the bomb squad by the club, and Maresca backed that decision all the way, even claiming that Sterling is “not his sort of winger” in order to help his superiors justify their decision.

Chelsea and Sterling’s conditions making deal impossible to do

Raheem Sterling arrives for Man City game

Sterling has been frozen out all season, but does seem to have the potential for a move in January. Dom Smith of the Evening Standard has reported that the former Man City man is interesting Fulham, and that Chelsea have already rejected a loan offer from West Ham.

The Blues only want a permanent deal, and Sterling’s wages are so hefty that that’s proving hard to organise. Interestingly, this piece notes that Sterling feels the same way, clearly just wanting to move on and not get stuck back in the same position next summer.

Sterling wants to stay in London, limiting his options. He’d better hope Fulham are ready to cough up and pay Chelsea, and also be prepared to significantly lower his wage demands. Otherwise, this exile is going to drag on until the summer – and potentially even longer than that. His contract expires in the summer of 2027, and at the moment it feels most likely that he stays until then.

In other news…

Ashley Cole has been speaking about Chelsea’s 2012 Champions League win, and accidentally pointed a criticism at our current model of squad building.

Calum McFarlane took the press conference yesterday and was confronted by a lot of questions about whether he actually knew the first team players. The whole thing was a disgrace.
