Kentucky Football transfer portal visitors roundup

The Wildcats are set to welcome a large group of portal targets, highlighted by former 5-star running back CJ Baxter.

Kentucky Football is wasting no time attacking the transfer portal, with a busy and important visitor weekend taking shape in Lexington.

As the Wildcats search for answers at quarterback, the foundation of those plans begins up front, and that is where new head coach Will Stein and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan are placing early emphasis.

KSR expects between 20 and 25 transfer prospects to visit campus this weekend, including five confirmed SEC transfers arriving Friday. The headliners are three massive offensive tackles: Auburn’s Xavier Chaplin (6-foot-7, 350 pounds), LSU’s Tyree Adams (6-foot-7, 310), and Ory Williams (6-foot-8, 335). Protecting the quarterback and rebuilding the offensive line are clear priorities, and Kentucky is casting a wide net.

Also visiting Friday are Arkansas linebacker Tavion Wallace, Missouri wide receiver Marquis Johnson, and Baylor interior offensive lineman Coleton Price. On Sunday into Monday, Villanova safety Anthony Hawkins will be in Lexington, followed by West Georgia defensive lineman Kourtney Kelly visiting on Wednesday.

The biggest name of the weekend, however, may be former Texas running back CJ Baxter.

According to Pete Thamel, Baxter is taking his first portal visit to Kentucky. The former five-star and No. 1 running back in the 2023 class rushed for 659 yards and five touchdowns as a freshman at Texas, earning Freshman All-American honors. Injuries slowed him the past two seasons, but Baxter is expected to have two years of eligibility remaining.

Here are some more confirmed visitors in the coming days and weeks.
