Two more notable names from the 2025 offense are going portaling.
In the final hours before the transfer portal officially opened, two more players from the Syracuse Orange offense appear to be officially departing for newer pastures.
Quarterback Rickie Collins is expected to enter the transfer portal, according to Mike McAllister and Chris Hummer of 247Sports. Ditto for wide receiver Johntay Cook, per On3. News that both Collins and Cook appear to be leaving the program popped up Thursday.
Collins initially was set to take over the starting quarterback spot for the 2025 season after transferring to the Orange from LSU. Coach Fran Brown named Collins as the starter on April 8. Just over two weeks later, Syracuse landed Notre Dame transfer quarterback Steve Angeli, who would eventually be QB1 heading into the year. After he went down mid-season with a torn Achilles, Collins would take over for most of 2025 before being taken out of the starting lineup.
After finishing up for Angeli against Clemson (going 3/8 for 34 yards and a touchdown pass), Collins would go 0-5 as the starter for Syracuse the rest of the way. He finished the 2025 season going 97/181 (53.6%), 1,042 yards, six TDs and 10 interceptions. Collins also ran 54 times for 126 yards.
Collins is the third Syracuse QB from the 2025 roster to enter the portal, joining Jakhari Williams and Luke Carney.
Also entering the portal is Cook, who was seen at the time as a bit of a gamble addition when he initially committed to the Orange as a transfer in April. Cook had played sparingly with Texas and Washington, then was arrested on multiple, though minor, charges.
Cook did end up playing a notable role for what eventually became a spiraling passing offense once Angeli went down. He finished with a career-high 45 catches for 549 yards to go with two TDs, leading the Orange in receptions and receiving yards.
Cook’s father told syracuse.com that Cook and the program couldn’t agree on a new contract.
Outside Cook, Syracuse is also losing another starting receiver in Darrell Gill Jr. to the portal.
On Friday morning, it was announced that kicker Jadyn Oh would also be entering the portal. Oh handled kickoffs last season after Tripp Woody assumed the place-kicking job.
We’ll keep you posted on the new players set to join the Orange in the coming days.
