He’s on his preliminary list.
Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has offered Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde hope he could be part of his World Cup 2026 squad.
Balde has been overlooked by the national team recently but De la Fuente says he is on his preliminary list for the tournament in North America, Canada and Mexico.
“All clubs are delighted to have their players called up to the national team, every single one. And I don’t know a single player who doesn’t want to come. But this is normal because it enhances the value of both the club and the player,” he told AS.T
“he national team is a media showcase that gives you worldwide recognition. That said, I’m completely impervious to comments. Our decisions are ours, and I bring in those I believe are the best.
“Balde has already been with me, and Carreras hasn’t yet, but he’s played for the youth national teams. Both are on our preliminary list and are doing very well, but as long as I believe there are others who are performing well, they’ll continue to be called up.”
The Spain boss also spoke about Joan Garcia’s hopes but admitted once again that there is intense competition for a place in goal for La Roja.
“There are requests for every position… We have five or six of the best goalkeepers in the world. Nobody talks about Robert Sánchez or Leo Román,” he added.
“We have some very good goalkeepers, some of the best in the world… and of course, Joan García too. Right now, we’re focusing on Unai, Raya, and Remiro, but we’ll see what happens between now and June.
“At that point, we’ll make decisions that some may like more than others, but I’m sure they’ll be the best ones for me.”
