While fans are waiting to see what Manchester United do in the January transfer market, INEOS are currently hard at work with regards to helping their academy stars land the perfect loan move.
There are obvious examples of temporary stints that are working well, like Harry Amass at Sheffield Wednesday.
Some of them have not worked out as hoped, with BBC Sport revealing that the Red Devils are cutting short two loan stints.
Sonny Aljofree, sent out to League Two side Notts County, made an impressive start to his loan stint, starting the first eight league games in a row, while also starting in both the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy.
Sonny Aljofree loan deal has not panned out
However, he has seen only one minute of league action since, not even making the bench in the last nine encounters.
It is clear that something has changed, and the Meadow Lane side no longer need his services and as a result, the Red Devils are preparing to bring him back to Old Trafford.
The same goes for the impressive Elyh Harrison. The 19-year-old had caught Ruben Amorim’s eye with his impressive shot-stopping and ability to play out from the back.
He secured a loan move to Shrewsbury, and after starting eight games, including six in League Two, his chances have completely diminished.
Elyh Harrison has faded after a strong start
In fact, he lost his place in September and has had to be content with a place on the bench since. And United are considering bringing him back as well.
“Manchester United are cutting short two of their young players’ loan stints and are ruminating over a third.
“Defender Sonny Aljofree has already come back from League Two Notts County, while England youth goalkeeper Elyh Harrison will also leave Shrewsbury.
Aljofree made 11 appearances, including 10 starts for Notts County at the start of the season but the 21-year-old has not featured since the end of September.
Habeeb Ogunneye’s future under discussion
Harrison started the campaign as first choice at Shrewsbury, making seven appearances, but also lost his place in September.”
Apart from the duo, discussions are also ongoing regarding Habeeb Ogunneye’s future. The fullback joined Newport County and featured regularly up till the start of December.
Since then, he has been given a watching brief from the bench, and the Old Trafford side could bring him back if his fortunes do not improve.
The report does not mention what the club are planning to do once they come back — whether another loan deal will be arranged or whether they will be kept on to boost the numbers amid a rising injury crisis at the club.
United have already recalled Toby Collyer from the Championship due to injury, and are currently without a permanent loans manager.
