With a couple of ailing running backs perhaps not playing the 2025 regular season finale, the Minnesota Vikings needed roster depth this week, signing free-agent halfback Sincere McCormick.

McCormick is a contingency tailback added to stabilize the room if Minnesota’s top options can’t go on Sunday.

Minnesota already has some built-in contingency plans if Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason cannot play, but pencil McCormick in as a possible practice squad elevation for Week 18.

Emergency Depth Added to Vikings Backfield

The 25-year-old will look spiffy in purple, if only for a week.

McCormick to Minnesota

McCormick will try on his firth team for size this season.

CBS Sports announced, “Minnesota signed Sincere McCormick to the practice squad Wednesday. McCormick hasn’t yet appeared in a regular-season game this season, though he’s logged stints on the practice squads of the 49ers, Cardinals and Broncos.”

“After Jordan Mason (ankle) missed Week 18, McCormick will now provide the Vikings with some additional backfield depth heading into the team’s regular-season finale against Green Bay on Sunday.”

McCormick is a bowling back, standing 5’8″ and weighing 205 pounds, with 4.60 speed.

The Revised Tailback Room

The Vikings don’t have Cam Akers anymore, but they do have a full house at running back.

Here’s the group:

  • Aaron Jones
  • Jordan Mason
  • Ty Chandler
  • Zavier Scott
  • Sincere McCormick (Practice Squad)

Notably, Jones did not practice on Wednesday, and Mason was limited. Chandler and Scott may get some serious run in Week 18, with McCormick available for mop-up work.

McCormick Stats & Resume

McCormick was an undrafted free agent rookie in 2022 from the University of Texas-San Antonio. He bided his time in Las Vegas, not seeing any regular season action in 2022 or 2023. That changed in 2024 when injuries emerged, and McCormick got some action down the stretch of that season.

He appeared in 5 games, with 2 starts, tallying 212 yards from scrimmage on 45 touches. His 4.7 yards per carry mark was particularly impressive, even if the Raiders deprioritized his role with the team soon after. At UTSA, McCormick logged a monster career, with 4,438 yards from scrimmage in 37 career games, complete with 35 touchdowns. The guy was a stud at that school.

Here’s his NFL resume so far through four seasons:

  • Las Vegas Raiders (2022–2024)
  • San Francisco 49ers (2025)
  • Arizona Cardinals (2025)
  • Denver Broncos (2025)
  • Minnesota Vikings (2025-now)

He’s bounced around all over the place in 2025, flipping around to numerous practice squads with no regular season work.

Pro Football Network‘s Oliver Hodkinson on McCormick before the 2022 NFL Draft: “McCormick comes off a terrific junior season and is a hard-running ball carrier who gets the most from his ability. Though he was not used much in the passing game at UTSA, he displayed that ability when given opportunities, which will be necessary for him to make it out of camp this summer.”

“Hard-working ball carrier who gets the most from his ability. Patiently waits for blocks to develop, consistently turns it upfield, and keeps his feet moving. Does not go down without a fight and falls forward when tackled. Runs with excellent lean and behind his pads. Displays good short-area quickness, burst through the hole, and the agility necessary to turn the corner. Catches the ball well when it’s thrown in his direction.”

A Futures Deal Possible

The NFL season will wrap up for Minnesota on Sunday, and sometime the following week, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah will hand out some futures contracts, deals for unsung players to stay attached at a low cost. Consider them offseason practice squad deals.

McCormick will be eligible, and if he plays his cards right in the next week, he could, in theory, be a candidate for the Vikings’ RB3 or RB4 job in 2026.

That’s the best-case scenario, of course. In all likelihood, McCormick will leave the team when the season ends and eye free agency in March, which is about 10 weeks away.
