Safe to say Texas and Michigan didn't envision ending their seasons in the Citrus Bowl, but that's where the blue-blood programs will close out 2025 in a matchup with plenty of storylines.
While the Longhorns, who opened the season as the No. 1 team in the country, have been the bigger disappointment on the field this season, they undoubtedly would not trade their situation for the one the Wolverines find themselves in at this point.
After the stunning dismissal of coach Sherrone Moore amid a scandal that will have far-reaching implications in Ann Arbor for years to come, one of the nation's most storied programs is on shaky ground. Biff Poggi will lead the team Wednesday, and if he can coax a strong performance out of a distracted roster, he could well position himself for at least a one-season stint in charge of the Wolverines before the coaching carousel spins again.
The biggest postseason news on the Longhorns' side is a much more positive development: Arch Manning will return for another season in Austin. That means expectations will be sky-high again next fall for Steve Sarkisian and Co., but they have one more chance to end 2025 on a positive note.
