LAINGSBURG, Mich. (WLNS) — Pewamo-Westphalia’s defense held Laingsburg scoreless in the third quarter part of a 23-0 run, helping the Pirates win dominating fashion, 70-29.

Pewamo-Westphalia’s Grady Eklund who led all-scorers with 20 points discussed how their length help to create problems for their opponent.

“This year we have a lot bigger guards, said Eklund. “We have like 6’3 and 6’3 so our length really helps us this year. We’re not really short in any position, so we can really just extend the floor and make them play from further out and just trap them.”

The Pirates were coming off their first loss of the season going into Laingsburg and wanted end 2025 with a win.

“I tell our guys all the time it’s how you respond, especially this time of year,” said Pewamo-Westphalia basketball coach Dominic Schneider. “When adversity hits or a loss hits, how are you going to be the next day in practice, the next possession and so on. I thought are guys did a good job the last week or so in practices, really bringing the intensity and really having a purpose of getting better and I think it showed here tonight,” he continued.

The Pirates are back in action on January 7th when they take on rival Fowler.

The Wolfpack of Laingsburg is back in action on January 3rd against Genesee Christian.
