The Jets are playing at this point for little beyond position in the 2026 NFL Draft. With the Falcons’ win over the Rams on Monday Night Football, the dream of the Jets landing the top pick has officially ended.
The Jets currently sit third behind the Raiders and the Giants. At 2-14, the Raiders are one game “ahead” of the Jets, Giants, and three other teams sitting at 3-13.
The first tiebreaker is strength of schedule. The easiest schedule among tied teams nets the highest pick. The Jets had a very narrow path to the top pick in the Draft, but that path has disappeared due to the impact of Atlanta’s victory on strength of schedule.
It speaks volumes about where the Jets are as a franchise that the most relevant thing about them is where they pick in the NFL Draft. It feels like I’ve learned enough about strength of schedule this year to last a lifetime. Yet here we are.
