They gave Tanner Scott a four-year, $72 million deal in the offseason, but he was struggling before he landed on the injured list. Kirby Yates gave up the lead on Wednesday afternoon in the eighth inning, showing exactly why the Dodgers need to target a leverage arm at the trade deadline.
FanSided's Chris Landers proposed this blockbuster trade that would bring three-time All-Star Emmanuel Clase from the Cleveland Guardians to the Dodgers:
- Dodgers receive: RHP Emmanuel Clase
- Guardians receive: LHP Justin Wrobleski, RHP Ben Casparius, OF Zyhir Hope (Dodgers' No. 2 prospect), INF Logan Wagner (Dodgers' No. 25 prospect
"You could see both teams up in arms over this package, which is how you know you're somewhere near the mark," wrote Landers. "Clase isn't quite at the all-world level he was last year, but he's still been awfully good, with a 2.80 ERA and 22 saves so far thanks to that triple-digits cutter that remains as wicked as ever. He also comes with one more guaranteed year of team control, plus team options for 2027 and 2028. If the Guardians really are willing to listen on him, he immediately becomes one of the hottest commodities on the market."

Clase led all of baseball in saves in 2022 and 2023. Last season, he led the American League in saves. Since 2021, he has a 1.78 ERA and 179 saves. He has also won two Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year Awards. He would take over as the closer, and Scott could serve as a setup man when he returns. That would allow Yates to be used in other high-leverage situations.
