Yankees' pitching coach Matt Blake, manager Aaron Boone tossed out of series finale at Toronto

Tempers flared in Wednesday night's top of the seventh at Rogers Centre, when the Yankees protested a called third strike against Anthony Volpe.

TORONTO – Things were rapidly unraveling again for the Yankees at Rogers Centre, and by the seventh inning a boiling point was reached in the visiting dugout.

Both Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake and manager Aaron Boone were ejected by plate umpire Manny Gonzalez, following a high third strike called against Anthony Volpe.

The Blue Jays walked away from Wednesday night's game 8-4 winners, after another shoddy defensive game by the Yanks, including a fifth inning where the first-place Jays scored two runs without benefit of a hit.

In the seventh, the Yankees’ dugout chirping toward Gonzalez reached a crescendo when Volpe was called out on strikes.

Gonzalez first motioned toward the visitors’ side and tossed out Blake. Boone seemed to, at first, calmly walk toward Gonzalez for an explanation.

But whatever Boone said earned him an ejection as he was walking away from Gonzalez, and that’s when the Yankees manager really got animated.

The in-your-face argument moved toward the Blue Jays dugout as Gonzalez kept trying to avoid Boone.

That’s when crew chief Ron Kulpa intervened, eventually directing Boone back toward his dugout and into the clubhouse.

It was Boone’s fourth ejection this year and Blake’s first of the season.
