Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Tanner Scott

The Los Angeles Dodgers have struggled recently, and injuries continue to plague the team. They could use the trade deadline to reload a little bit.

Tanner Scott exited his last outing early. An MRI revealed no structural damage, but he was still placed on the injured list. The Dodgers could be in the market for a late-inning reliever, regardless of Scott's health. He has struggled this year, but his injury may up the urgency to add a leverage arm.

CBS Sports' Matt Snyder suggested the Dodgers could trade for David Bednar of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates are poised to be sellers, and Bednar could be a huge addition for the Dodgers.

"The former All-Star again looks like his old self for the Pirates and is under team control through next season," wrote Snyder. "If the Dodgers grabbed (Jhoan) Duran and Bednar while getting healthy returns from Michael Kopech, Blake Treinen and (Brusdar) Graterol, all of a sudden the bullpen issues become a thing of the past. "

Bednar is a two-time All-Star closer. He led the National League in saves in 2023, but struggled last season. This year, he was optioned to Triple-A after three games, but has been great since making his return to the big leagues.

He has a 1.59 ERA and 14 saves since returning to the Majors. Scott has a 4.14 ERA this season, so Bednar could replace him as the closer. Scott could serve as a setup man or simply another leverage arm for Dave Roberts.
