SPRINGFIELD–For the second straight day, all four No. 1-seeds advanced in the annual Blue & Gold, Pink & White Lady Classic Tournaments.
In the 80th Annual Blue & Gold Tournament, Nixa, the No. 1 seed in Gold Division, thrashed the Strafford Indians, 84-47. The Eagles had four players score 10-or-more points, including Ty Kellis with a game-high 21, followed by Adam McKnight with 19.
Nixa will go against No. 5-seeded Branson in the semifinals, Monday at 4 p.m. The winner will play in the championship game on Tuesday against the winner of No. 2-seed Hartville and unseeded West Plains.
In the Blue Division, top-seeded Logan-Rogersville didn’t miss a beat bashing the Pirates of Crane, 68-38. Chase Branham led all scorers with 19 points. Teammate Jack Sutherland recorded the second-most points with 18 in the contest.
The Wildcats face No. 4-seed Glendale in Monday’s semifinal, at 7pm, after the Falcons hammered the Marshfield Jays, 91-67.
At the 14th Annual Pink and White Lady Classic, both No. 1-seeds, Kickapoo and Strafford got the job done, on Saturday, but neither had a blowout victory like they enjoyed in Friday’s opening games.
Strafford barely held off No. 8-seed, Willard in a 59-56 battle. The Lady Indians used their size and quickness to score several transition baskets, and knocked down key free throws to come away with the 3-point win. Strafford tangles with No. 4-seed Republic, on Monday, at 2 p.m. in the Pink Bracket semifinals.
Finally, the Kickapoo Lady Chiefs defeated the Lady Bobcats of Thayer, 56-45 in a physical game. Anaya Perry scored a team-high 20 points to lead the Lady Chiefs to victory. She made buckets from inside and outside the arch to help her team reach the White Bracket semifinals, where they’ll play No. 4-seed Hillcrest, after the Hornets knocked off No. 5-seed Skyline.
