Bayern Munich star Dayot Upamecano doesn’t care where he plays

Dayot Upamecano will do whatever it takes…

Right side…left side…none of that matters to Bayern Munich center-back Dayot Upamecano.

The Frenchman just wants to be on the pitch.

For Bayern Munich, Upamecano often plays as a right center-back, while France typically uses the 26-year-old on the left-side. None of that matters to Upamecano.

“If the coach tells me tomorrow, “Dayot, you’re playing as a defensive midfielder,” I’ll play as a defensive midfielder. If he puts me at right-back, I’ll play right-back too. I’ll give it my all. Honestly, it doesn’t bother me. The passing angles are different, but defensively, it’s the same thing,” Upamecano told L’Equipe (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I like to make things happen with the ball, to break the lines. I learned that in Salzburg with Rangnick. It’s a style of play that I liked immediately. There’s an element of risk. When it works, everyone will say, ‘Great!’ If it doesn’t, people will criticize us for taking the risk. But I’ve always liked taking risks. As a defender, we have that responsibility, too.”

Upamecano’s game has matured greatly in recent seasons and his adaptability — and the willingness to do what is needed — is something that you cannot ignore.
