WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The East Carolina University football team arrived in Washington Tuesday ahead of the Go Bowling Military Bowl.
The Pirates are the defending champions of the Military Bowl after beating NC State in the game last season. This year, they’ll look for the same success against Pittsburgh.
“We’ve earned the right to be here again,” head coach Blake Harrell said. “A privilege to be back here in the nation’s capital experiencing the Go Bowling Military Bowl with our young men. They’re excited to play and excited to be here for Christmas and the holidays and the celebrate the men and women that have served our country, do some community service and explore around the city.”
ECU enters the game 8-4 this season overall.
With a recruiting football in the DMV, the Pirates of some players from the area. Senior wide receiver Anthony Smith was a standout player at Huntington high school in southern Maryland. Smith is excited to be back in the area for this year’s game.
“I love it. It’s the bowl that I wanted. Dream come true,” Smith told DC News Now. “Get to play my last collegiate game back at home in front of the fans so definitely something to remember for sure.”
