According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona have taken a strong stance in their search for defensive reinforcements.
As such, they have decided that the club will not spend money in January on a centre-back whose contract expires at the end of the season.
Barcelona are currently going through a delicate and complex situation. While the need for defensive cover has been acknowledged, the club is determined not to act in haste.
Instead, Barça are carefully assessing market opportunities, particularly players who could arrive on a short-term loan for six months, even if that deal does not include a purchase option.
Decision has been made
It is said that Barcelona will not commit transfer funds to players who have only six months remaining on their contracts.
From the club’s perspective, paying a fee now for a footballer who could be signed for free in June simply does not make financial sense, especially given the current economic reality at the club.
It must be noted that several high-profile defenders find themselves in this contract situation, including Ibrahima Konate, Dayot Upamecano, Marc Guehi, Marcos Senesi and Diogo Leite.

However, signing any of these players would still require a transfer fee, and Barcelona have no intention of going down that path.
While these names are attractive on paper, the club hierarchy believes patience is the smarter option.
So what now?
Instead, Barcelona are actively speaking with agents to explore alternative scenarios.
One such name being monitored is Nathan Ake of Manchester City, whose situation could potentially open the door to a short-term loan.
The club is also aware that unexpected opportunities often arise in the final days of the transfer window.
For now, there is no panic inside the Camp Nou offices. The return of Ronald Araujo will be seen as a significant boost, allowing the club time to study the market thoroughly and wait for the right move.
