Fans Mock Pirates Following Wiz Khalifa First Pitch originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
We can say whatever we want to about popular rapper Wiz Khalifa, but at least we can universally agree that he threw a better first pitch than 50 Cent.
Khalifa took the mound for Sunday’s Pittsburgh Pirates-Chicago White Sox game to close out the Pirates’ annual Yinzerpalooza Weekend. Pittsburgh celebrated the occasion with a 7-2 loss, giving the White Sox their first sweep of 2024.

Social media users quickly poked fun at Khalifa and the Pirates, who dropped to 39-61. Pittsburgh sits 20 1/2 games out of first place and is only 3-11 in July.
“He should’ve pitched the whole game,” one fan quipped, and they’re not necessarily wrong. Andrew Heaney allowed seven runs in four-plus innings, dooming the Pirates to their ninth loss in 10 games.
Added another: “And he’s just as disgusted as the rest of us with this team.”
Various commenters referenced the Pirates’ attendance, with less than 20,000 fans attending Sunday’s game. PNC Park holds nearly 39,000 fans.
“Fun Fact: He was waving to each Pirates fan that showed up individually,” read one post.
If the Pirates came away impressed, they can always sign Khalifa for the season’s first two months. Pirates pitchers Andrew Heaney, David Bednar, Dennis Santana, and Mitch Keller have all recently been mentioned in trade rumors.
Could Khalifa team up with Paul Skenes in the Pirates’ rotation? Who wouldn’t want to see Khalifa face Elly De La Cruz or Pete Crow-Armstrong late in a game?
As X/Twitter users rhetorically asked, what do the Pirates have to lose?
“The most exciting moment whenever the pirates play,” joked one fan.
