🏀GIRLS BASKETBALL - Division I

West Warwick 65, Bay View 48

The Wizards saw a large first half lead slip to four, then closed out the half with a bang and got back to doing what they do best in a 65-48 win over the Bengals.

West Warwick let its defense set the tone, grabbing rebounds and turning turnovers into points to build an 18-3 lead after the first quarter. Bay View, led by Lailah Valles, changed things in a hurry in the second and worked the score to 20-16, putting some pressure on the visitors.

The Wizards responded brilliantly. Led by Alexa Foley, they close the half on a 9-0 run to take a 29-20 lead into halftime. Foley and some long-range shooting from Brea Lima helped maintain the lead despite a valiant effort from Valles and in the fourth, 3-pointers by Lima and Gabby Cormo put the game away from good to ensure there’d be no comeback.

Foley led the way for West Warwick with 23 points. Lima scored 17, all in the second half, hitting five 3-pointers. Carmo was also in double figures with 11.

Valles had a big game in defeat, scoring 26 points in the loss.
