With Kyle Schwarber set to hit free agency in the offseason, there's a lot of concern over whether the Philadelphia Phillies can keep him.

But Phillies fans got some good news with a new report from Paul Casella of MLB.com. "Schwarber has said he hopes to stay in Philadelphia," Casella wrote.

It's a straightforward sentence, but the weight it carries is immense. If Schwarber is interested in returning, the contract negotiations are already trending in the right direction.

He's not just open to the biggest deal that comes across his lap; he's interested in staying in Philadelphia. Keeping the Phillies slugger for the next few years would be a massive boost for the team and its championship window.

If Schwarber were to leave before that window is up, it'd be a huge loss. The Phillies want to keep him, and with how he's been his best with the Phillies, it'd make sense for both sides to work out a deal.

Schwarber has amassed 9.6 career WAR in the four years he's been with the team. He's hit 163 home runs, including 32 this season through 98 games.

Schwarber has been one of the best sluggers in baseball, behind only Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge in total home runs since 2022, his first season in Philadelphia.

Retaining him is a priority for the Phillies, and with Schwarber expressing his interest in staying, there seems to be a lot more optimism that an extension can be worked out than there was earlier this season.
