Auburn junior cornerback Kayin Lee plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining.

Lee enters the portal after starting 11 of his 12 game this past season at corner, where he finished with 31 tackles and was tied for the team lead with four pass breakups. A full-time starter the past two seasons, Lee has started 25 of his 36 career games in Auburn, racking up 81 tackles, including 68 solo, 20 passes defended, 17 pass breakups, three interceptions and two tackles for loss.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Lee signed with Auburn as a four-star recruit and the No. 13 overall cornerback in the 2023 class out of Cedar Grove High in Ellenwood, Ga., according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. Lee was also the No. 7 player in Georgia and the 126th overall prospect in the 2023 class.

Kayin Lee accepts Hugh Freeze’s ‘NFL corner’ praise

Ahead of Auburn’s 2024 Fall camp, then-head coach Hugh Freeze called Lee a “NFL corner,” providing the rising sophomore plenty of added motivation entering his first season as a full-time starter.

“It puts more weight on my shoulders. I know I have to keep going and keep working. It’s great to hear that, but I already knew that. To hear that from my coach, that means a lot also,” Lee said, according to Auburn Sports’ Justin Hokanson.

“It’s a big role I plan to play,” Lee added. “I want to help my team every which way I can. I want to be able to complete everything we want to do, reach all of our goals we want to meet within the SEC and nation, and just ball out.”

At the time, Lee credited then-new defensive coordinator DJ Durkin for installing a scheme that allowed him to better recognize defensive concepts.

“I feel like Coach Durkin’s scheme is more simple and easier for us to dissect,” Lee said. “I feel like we can say that as a team. It goes back to my high school days, that helps me a lot. It helps me remember things and helps my game translate better for my teammates and coaches.”
