Barcelona defensive ace may not be a part of Asia tour as Flick looks to pick 26-man squad

Hansi Flick will soon have to make a difficult decision as he looks to pick a 26-man squad which will travel to Asia for the pre-season tour.

As reported earlier, the German coach is currently training with at least 33 players, meaning there will be some notable exclusions in the final list.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen has already been confirmed to miss out due to a potential surgery. But there are more who could join the list, one of them being Andreas Christensen.

Christensen could miss Asia trip

According to Mundo Deportivo, Christensen is unlikely to be a part of the final Barcelona squad travelling to Japan and South Korea this month.

There are a couple of reasons why the Catalans are expected to take this decision, one of them being that the club simply do not want to take five centre-backs to Asia.

Barcelona already have four competent defenders in the form of Eric Garcia, Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez and Ronald Araujo.

They do not want a fifth one and Andreas Christensen is the one being sacrificed.

Another key reason is that Christensen has played very little football over the past 12 months or so, with the defender’s 2024/25 campaign being marred by injuries.

This has led to the Dane falling behind in the pecking order, with no real hopes of a major breakthrough once again.

Although Flick likes his versatility, it is unlikely Christensen will be a part of Barcelona’s team next season and a summer departure could still be on the cards.

Keeping these factors in mind, Barça are unlikely to include the former Chelsea star in the final squad travelling to Asia this midweek.
