Manuel Neuer explains why Bayern Munich loves Vincent Kompany

He’s the man.

Bayern Munich clearly has something special in head coach Vincent Kompany — who for many, made a surprisingly quick leap up the ladder in the coaching world after a tough Premier League campaign for Burnley ended in relegation.

It wasn’t long ago that Kompany was still playing, too, at Manchester City — and that history is a big part of why he enjoys a command of the FC Bayern locker room.

“He’s very much appreciated by the players because we all know what level he played at and that he’s not too far away from where we are as players,” goalkeeper Manuel Neuer explained in a recent Bundesliga interview, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “He started his career young and was also a player-coach, so he knows all about how modern football is played.

“He leaves nothing to chance and he is very clear, which makes him appear very confident and dominant. His aim is always to give us what we need to succeed, but he’s also open to conversations and input from the team. He puts an arm around the players when needed and he checks how the injured players are getting on with their rehab. He has a lot on his plate and as we just discussed, he does the media work very well as well. As a young coach here at Bayern, there are a lot of positive things to report about him.”

Top-level players don’t always make top-level coaches. But it might just be an important characteristic for Bayern going forward.
