Arizona Wildcats legend Scooby Wright III is scared for spring football's survival after the UFL relocated the Stallions out of Birmingham.
Arizona Wildcats football legend Scooby Wright III, like many in the 205 and across the state of Alabama, is heartbroken that the UFL is relocating the Birmingham Stallions.
Wright claimed he was “sick and disgusted” by Birmingham, Michigan, Houston, and Memphis, the four teams that make up the UFL’s “USFL” conference, moving to Boise (Idaho), Columbus (Ohio), Florida (likely Orlando), and Kentucky (Louisville/Lexington).
Wright admitted he understands why no spring football league has been able to sustain any momentum beyond a year or two.
“This is why spring football will never be sustainable too much change can’t build fan base….im actually sick and disgusted by these moves,” Wright tweeted.
"Birmingham Alabama will always have a special place in my heart it was the most fun I ever had playing football…..Sharkdawg mafia forever! Thank you for embracing me…."
The Stallions won the 2022 and 2023 USFL Championships before the USFL and XFL merged to form the UFL in 2024. Birmingham then won the 2024 UFL Championship after a 25-0 shutout win over the San Antonio Brahmas.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio admitted that the Stallions and Michigan Panthers leaving their current markets is a shocker.
“Memphis is no surprise; attendance was very poor. Michigan, however, had a significant spike in 2025. And Birmingham won three straight championships (two in the USFL, one in the UFL) before losing in the playoffs in 2025,” Florio wrote.
Florio believes four former USFL teams can return.
“A report surfaced in May that the UFL had filed trademark applications for a quartet of old USFL teams: Oakland Invaders, the Philadelphia Stars, the New Jersey Generals, and the Tampa Bay Bandits,” Florio wrote.
“And so it makes sense to wonder whether the new USFL conference will consist of those four former USFL teams.”
Perhaps the USFL conference will cease to be, and FOX will move on from their investment in the league. Who knows.
What Wright and many Stallion fans know is that #GiddyUp had a great run in the Magic City during their three-peat from 2022-2024.
