Canadiens Intriguing Prospect Can't Be Slept On

It is no secret that the Montreal Canadiens have one of the strongest prospect pools in the NHL right now. They have plenty of exciting prospects in their system, like Ivan Demidov, Jacob Fowler, David Reinbacher, and Michael Hage.

It is no secret that the Montreal Canadiens have one of the strongest prospect pools in the NHL right now. They have plenty of exciting prospects in their system, like Ivan Demidov, Jacob Fowler, David Reinbacher, and Michael Hage.

However, they also have another intriguing prospect heading into the 2025-26 season that fans should not sleep on - forward Joshua Roy.

Roy, 21, is certainly a fascinating prospect to watch heading into next season. The 6-foot winger's goal will be to take that next step and emerge as a true NHL player. When looking at what he has done so far, the possibility of him becoming just that should not be ruled out.

Roy kicked off his professional career during the 2023-24 season, splitting time between the Laval Rocket and Canadiens. In 41 games with Laval that campaign, he recorded 13 goals and 32 points in 41 games. He also showed promise during his time with the Habs, posting four goals and nine points in 23 games. This was after Roy had 46 goals and 99 points during his final QMJHL season with the Sherbrooke Phoenix.

During this past season, Roy did not necessarily take a big step forward in his development, but was still solid with Laval. In 47 games with the AHL squad, he scored 20 goals and recorded 35 points. While with the Habs in 2024-25, he scored two goals and had a minus-6 rating.

While Roy did not break out for the Canadiens last season, it is fair to wonder if that could change in 2025-26. There is no question that the young forward has offensive skill, but it is now a matter of him translating it to the NHL level. If he breaks out for the Canadiens next season, it would be huge for a Montreal club that is on the rise.

It will now be very intriguing to see what kind of season Roy has for the Canadiens in 2025-26. There is no question that it is a massive year for the promising youngster.
