Another chance on the horizon for Neuhaus?

Borussia Mönchengladbach’s sporting director Roland Virkus has offered insight into the ongoing controversy surrounding suspended midfielder Florian Neuhaus - and has not ruled out his return to the first-team squad.

“Flo is a player with great potential, and that’s how we evaluate him - just like everyone else,” Virkus told Sky. “We look at things purely from a sporting perspective. If he lives up to his ability, which he’s more than capable of, then Florian Neuhaus is a very, very good player.”

The controversy began after a short video clip surfaced, allegedly filmed on the island of Mallorca, Spain. In the video, a disrespectful remark aimed at Virkus can be heard before Neuhaus appears and openly states his salary to be “four million” euros - a figure that would place him among the club’s top earners, if accurate.

As a result, the 28-year-old was suspended on July 2nd. Gladbach imposed a six-figure fine and assigned him to the U23 squad for a four-week period as disciplinary action.

Now, as the suspension nears its end, the club’s leadership appears set to re-evaluate the situation. “Flo didn’t behave appropriately, and we’ve disciplined him accordingly,” said Virkus. “After four weeks, we’ll reassess where things stand.”

Neuhaus, who has ten caps for Germany, remains under contract with Die Fohlen until 2027.
