Mavericks 'do not want LeBron James' amid Lakers drama

The Mavericks might not have had a chance for the Lakers' star, but they don't want him.

LeBron James

There were reports suggesting that the Dallas Mavericks had interest in trading for LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers. After James had his agent, Rich Paul, make polarizing comments to ESPN and The Athletic, many believe there was an opportunity for him to be traded.

However, after the Lakers went out and added Deandre Ayton, signed Marcus Smart, and made some other intriguing moves during the offseason, it remains uncertain just how James feels.

Whether he's happy with the Lakers or not, according to a recent report from Rachel Nichols, when speaking on a show, the Mavericks aren't interested in James at all, and have signaled that to multiple reporters around the league.

"The Mavericks do not want LeBron James," Nichols said. "They have messaged that out through multiple reporters. So, I think that door is closed."

It's possible that the Mavericks aren't interested in a James trade if it were to have to happen that way.

However, if the Lakers, for whatever reason, bought him out, there would be more sense in getting something done.

From the Lakers' perspective, there isn't much of a reason to buy James out of his deal, so the Mavericks likely understand there isn't much of a chance for them to land him.

James is still a great player, and one could argue that he's one of the top 10 to 15 players in the league still, but considering he'll be 41 years old in December, it wouldn't make much sense for the Mavericks to move multiple assets for the veteran.
