Texas football made another statement on the recruiting trail with the addition of five-star RB Derrek Cooper.
Texas football landed the fourth five-star member of its 2026 recruiting class Sunday, when running back Derrek Cooper pledged to join the Longhorns.
Cooper is ranked as the No. 29 overall player in the recruiting cycle, the No. 2 running back and the No. 2 player in the state of Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
He chose the Longhorns over offers from Ohio State, Miami, Georgia, Alabama, Florida and several other top schools.
Listed at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, Cooper plays his high school football for Chaminade-Madonna in Hollywood, Fla.
His commitment elevated the Texas recruiting class to No. 5 in the nation and continued a red-hot stretch on the trail for coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff. Texas has landed six top-100 prospects in the last month.
Alongside Cooper, Richard Wesley, Dia Bell and Tyler Atkinson give Texas a quartet of five-stars. If they all sign with the Longhorns, that will mark four consecutive years that Texas has secured at least four five-stars in its recruiting class.
