The ACC has taken on a far different look over the years due to realignment. Most recently, the conference added SMU, Cal and Stanford.
The ACC used to be all about the Carolinas and mid-Atlantic. Then the conference decided it needed to add teams so it plucked schools from the Big East. And when the Big Ten and SEC continued to grow, the ACC wasn't going to sit by idly. Or rather it wound up with some institutions that were, um left over from what the other power conferences plans. Yes, there are schools from California and Texas in the ACC. Rivalries? Well, if a team starts to play now then fictional rivalries can be stirred and grown. What are the nicknames of the schools that comprise the Atlantic Coast Conference ... for the time being.
