Former Missouri basketball center Mabor Majak is back in Columbia as a graduate assistant, the second time Dennis Gates has added an alum as a GA.
Another former Dennis Gates player is getting their first coaching opportunity on the Mizzou staff.
Missouri basketball has added former center Mabor Majak as a graduate assistant ahead of the 2025-26 season, a team spokesperson confirmed to the Tribune on Monday. The news was first reported by Drew King of 247Sports.
Majak played for the Tigers from 2022-24 and was on Gates’ roster at Cleveland State before moving to Columbia with the head coach. He finished his college career at Coastal Carolina last season.
Majak, a 7-foot-1 center who comes from Joba, South Sudan, and played high school basketball in Indiana, was a preferred walk-on for the Tigers during his time on the roster.
He appeared in 32 total games for Missouri, including 24 appearances in the 2023-24 season. In 6.1 minutes per game, he averaged 0.4 points and 1.1 rebounds.
Majak is the second recent former Mizzou player in as many seasons to be named as a graduate assistant as their first coaching job.
The Tigers hired Tre Gommillion, another member of both Gates’ Cleveland State squad and first Mizzou team, as a graduate assistant ahead of the 2024-25 season. Gomillion is expected to return to the staff this season, and now will be joined by one of his former teammates.
Mizzou’s assistant coaches for the 2025-26 season will be Kyle Smithpeters, who recently was promoted to the role of associate head coach, Ryan Sharbaugh, Matt Cline, Dickey Nutt and Steve Wright, who MU hired this offseason from Duquesne. MU also hired the program's first general manager this offseason, tabbing former assistant Tim Fuller for the role.
