Could have been a complete disaster for the defending champs.
Freddie Freeman left Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers after taking an 88 mph sinker to the left wrist. The incident came in the sixth inning of what ended as a 6-5 loss for the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
Manager Dave Roberts confirmed after the game that Freeman is listed as day-to-day with a wrist contusion. Initial X-rays were negative.

“I held my breath,” Roberts said. “Losing a guy like him for any stretch would be tough, but thankfully it looks like we avoided something serious.”
The pitch came from Brewers lefty Jose Quintana, who missed inside with a sinking fastball as Freeman tried to hold back a half-swing. The All-Star first baseman grimaced in pain and immediately made his way toward the dugout. He briefly conferred with Roberts and a trainer before heading straight to the clubhouse.
Miguel Rojas stepped in at first base after Hyeseong Kim pinch-ran for Freeman.
Freeman isn’t new to wrist trouble. Back in 2017, he fractured the same wrist after getting hit by a pitch during his time with the Braves. That injury kept him off the field for nearly two months.
Roberts admitted he was worried when Freeman began walking toward him after the play.

“He never comes out of games unless it’s something real,” he said. “So when he said it was the wrist and he couldn’t go on, I knew it wasn’t good.”
The Dodgers will re-evaluate Freeman on Monday to determine his availability moving forward.
The loss finished a frustrating series for Los Angeles, who were swept by Milwaukee and have now dropped four straight. The Brewers have now won ten in a row, and are tied with the Cubs at the top of the National League Central.
