Champions! Youth baseball All-Star teams winning, chasing titles across age brackets

Chaires Little League’s 11-under All-Star Team won the Little League State Championship.

Tallahassee youth baseball has a rich, winning tradition.

And local All-Star teams haven't missed a beat this summer.

The Winthrop Park 12-under All-Star team recently won the 20-team USSSA Rec World Series in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Winthrop went 2-1 in pool play and was seeded seventh in the gold bracket.

The team won four games in bracket play, upsetting No. 3 seed Northport and No. 1 Bloomfield Pride enroute to capturing the national title.

Evan Watson hit the first home run for Winthrop in the Word Series, belting a 280-foot-plus blast over the fence against Bloomfield. Camden Cowart, the lone 11-year-old on the team, closed out the 7-5 victory.

Kolt Malone allowed one hit over three innings against Westside and tossed three hitless innings against Bloomfield. And Jude Dietz secured a 9-8 extra-inning win over Northport with a strikeout to end it.

The team won the championship by forfeit when the opponent's pitcher was ruled ineligible after the first inning.

"This year has been a blast," head coach Tre Johnson said of his team that finished 13-7-1 in the postseason. "As coaches, we love coaching baseball because it teaches life lessons."

The Tallahassee-Leon Babe Ruth 14U All-Star team hosted and won the Southeast Tournament, held at Lincoln High. TLBR beat Greenville, N.C. 10-2 in the title game.

Tallahassee-Leon Babe Ruth's 14-year-old All Star team hosted and won the Southeast Regional at Lincoln High School.

TLBR went undefeated at 6-0 in the tournament, beating Greenville, North Carolina 10-2 in Saturday's title game. The team outscored its opponents 51-8, allowing two runs per game.

TLBR will advance to the 14U Babe Ruth World Series in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on Aug. 7.

Chaires Little League's 11-under All-Star team became the first Tallahassee team to win a Little League State Championship, according to its social media page.

The team won the state tourney in Brevard County, beating Keystone in the title game and advancing to the Little League Tournament of State Champions in North Carolina.
