The Texas Longhorns are predicted to win the SEC title in 2025.
On Friday, the SEC preseason media poll was revealed and Texas is the clear-cut favorite to win the conference with 96 first-place votes. The next closest is Georgia with 44 first-place votes.
The Longhorns also lead the way on the 2025 Preseason All-SEC football team. Texas has five first-team members and eight other players who made the second or third team. The first-team honors belong to running back Quintrevion Wisner, offensive lineman DJ Campbell, defensive lineman Colin Simmons, linebacker Anthony Hill Jr., and defensive back Michael Taaffe.
Texas wide receiver Ryan Wingo, defensive back Malik Muhammad, and punter Jack Bouwmeester appeared on the second team. Quarterback Arch Manning, tight end Jack Endries, offensive lineman Trevor Goosby, and defensive lineman Trey Moore round out the third-team selections.
The ranking and selections feel warranted as Texas has reached the College Football Playoff semifinal back-to-back years. On top of that, the Longhorns return several key playmakers on each side of the ball.
What better way to help an inexperienced quarterback than to have one of the best backfields in the conference? Alongside Wisner, the Longhorns return running back CJ Baxter who was sidelined the entirety of last season with a knee injury.
Texas' defense should be ranked one of the top units in the country this season as well, led by the No. 1 linebacker in college football in Anthony Hill Jr.
Steve Sarkisian's squad certainly still has to go out and prove it, but it's hard to argue against their expectations to win it all.
