Philadelphia Phillies' Dave Dombrowski's "ideal," but unlikely, trade deadline deal would land both Byron Buxton and Jhoan Duran from the Minnesota Twins.
Dave Dombrowksi's Ideal Trade Deadline Move Lands Phillies Byron Buxton, Jhoan Duran originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
At the MLB trade deadline, there are a lot of potential deals the Philadelphia Phillies could pull off. With needs in the bullpen and the outfield, there are plenty of players the Phillies could target.
But, according to MLB insider Jayson Stark, during an appearance on Foul Territory, Dave Dombrowski has an ideal trade deadline deal that would be incredible for the Phillies, but is unlikely to happen.

"His ideal trade is not going to happen," Stark said. "His ideal trade is the Twins for Byron Buxton and Jhoan Duran. That's not going to happen; the Twins are not going to do that."
The Phillies landing both Duran and Buxton would not just be Dombrowski's ideal trade deadline scenario, but all of Philadelphia's. Adding a power-hitting, right-handed outfielder is the perfect pickup for the outfield.
Duran, meanwhile, would also be a great fit. He's a right-handed reliever who'd take over for Jordan Romano, who's struggled for the majority of the season. While it's not a realistic deal, it's the kind of move Dombrowski wants to do.
"But that's what I think Dave would do in an ideal world." Stark said. "Give up a ton of prospects for a big bat, a huge arm, and two guys who he could control beyond this year."
With Zack Wheeler expected to retire after 2027, and some looming free agents like Kyle Schwarber and Ranger Suarez, there's no time like the present in Philadelphia.
Dombrowski's ideal trade deadline move would cost a fortune, but both Buxton and Duran would be worth it.
Buxton was an All-Star with 21 home runs and a .925 OPS in the first half, while Duran had a strong case with his 1.66 ERA and 49 strikeouts with 15 saves.
Both would be great additions, and while Stark doesn't see such a move as possible, it'd still be Dombrowski's ideal move if he could make it.
