Ex-Devils Defender Should Be Nice Addition For New Team

Earlier this off-season, the New Jersey Devils did not re-sign defenseman Brian Dumoulin. While he proved to be a solid trade deadline addition for the Devils, it was not necessarily surprising that they let him walk. This is because they already had plenty of depth on their blueline and had other needs to address with their cap space.

After Dumoulin hit the market as an unrestricted free agent (UFA) earlier this month, he quickly landed a three-year, $12 million contract with the Los Angeles Kings. While the Kings had hoped to re-signed top blueliner Vladislav Gavrikov, who ended up signing with the Rangers, Dumoulin still has the potential to be a solid addition to their roster.

With the loss of Gavrikov, it was no secret that the Kings needed to find a reliable defenseman to replace him. Bringing in a veteran defenseman like Dumoulin has given them just that, as he has been a steady defensive defenseman throughout his career.

When looking at the Kings' current defensive group, Dumoulin has a good shot of playing on their second pairing. Furthermore, due to his steady defensive play, the former Devil should also get penalty-kill time with the Kings.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how much of an impact Dumoulin can make with the Kings from here. While he may not have been the biggest signing of this summer, he should help the Kings next season.
