Cam Newton recently took to his podcast to give his side of a story SEC media personality Paul Finebaum recently shared on ESPN. The former Florida Gators quarterback made it clear his Gainesville exit was his choice.
Finebaum said Newton, the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner and Auburn Tigers great, was kicked off Urban Meyer’s team before heading to Blinn College. Finebaum claimed Meyer told him Newton is "the worst guy he has ever dealt with in his college career."
"Do you really think I was the worst player that Urban Meyer has ever dealt with? Your words. Not mine," Newton said last week on "4th&1 with Cam Newton." "You're lying. Stop it, please, because that slander, that mud that you're throwing, the old me would've had other words and other retaliation tactics."
Newton listed off Meyer's major coaching stops, likely hinting at the coach’s longevity and that the three-time national champion's rosters were rife with off-field issues.
"For me to be the worst that he's ever dealt with, we all know that that's a lie," Newton said. "The real reason why (I) got kicked off the team? Well, tell the people. What you gonna say? Because I stole a laptop? That's not true because Urban Meyer will tell you. I had to transfer.
Newton has discussed the stolen laptop incident in the past. The reason he left, he added, was the reason why he chose Gainesville, to play football. Tim Tebow was entrenched as Meyer’s starter, keeping Newton from getting on the field.
"I did not get kicked off the team, Paul!" Newton reiterated.
