Fast bowler Harry Moore will miss Derbyshire's entire season with the back injury that has already kept him out of the opening months of the campaign.
The East Midlands club had initially hoped the 18-year-old would miss only the first eight weeks of the season after suffering a stress fracture in his back during a pre-season match in late March.
Derbyshire head of cricket Mickey Arthur now says delivering the "best possible care and recovery time" will be the "priority" after Moore suffered a setback in his efforts to return.
"Harry is a young player, he has time on his side, and we will work closely with him throughout his recovery, and hopefully we will see him back to his best next summer," Arthur told the club website.
Moore has made a big early impression with the East Midlands side, having emerged from the club's academy to became Derbyshire's youngest debutant when he played against Worcestershire in the One-Day Cup in 2023.
By December last year, and after only three County Championship and 10 One-Day Cup appearances, he had made his debut for the England Lions when the second-string national side played in South Africa.
He went on to play for the England Under-19 side on their tour of South Africa earlier in the year, but then suffered the injury on his return to Derbyshire in a pre-season friendly against the South Asian Cricket Academy.
