Maximo Perrone has finalised his permanent exit from Manchester City this week as he joins Italian side Como in a big-money move for the Italian club.

The Argentine midfielder, who joined City from Velez Sarsfield in 2022, leaves the club after three years that saw him develop across two European leagues while also making his senior debut under Pep Guardiola in the process.

Although first-team opportunities at the Etihad Stadium were severely limited, Perrone departs with a UEFA Champions League winners’ medal and memories of being part of one of the most iconic squads in club history.

Perrone made his City debut during the 2022/23 campaign, featuring twice under Guardiola as the club completed a historic Treble, remaining part of the celebrations as City lifted the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League trophies that season, later adding a UEFA Super Cup victory over Sevilla.

In pursuit of regular game time, the midfielder then moved on loan to Spanish side Las Palmas, making 30 appearances in La Liga’s 2023/24 campaign and gained vital experience in a side battling to retain their top-flight status.

That development continued with a loan move to Como the following year, where he became a key figure in Cesc Fabregas’ team — playing 26 times, assisting three goals, and helping them to a commendable 10th-place finish in Serie A.

Now, as confirmed by Manchester City this week, Maximo Perrone is set to join Italian side Como on a permanent transfer following his temporary spell with the club, with the deal subject to international clearance at the time of announcement.

The Argentine midfielder leaves the Etihad Stadium with the club’s best hopes, as the statement said: “Everyone at Manchester City sends their best wishes to Maximo ahead of his move to Como.”

As per confirmation from the Manchester Evening News’ Tyrone Marshall, Como have signed Perrone for a fee worth up to €15 million; made up of an initial €13 million up front cost, with a further €2 million in potential add-ons.

Manchester City have been aware of the player’s long-term potential however, as they have also included a substantial 30 per cent sell-on clause as part of the deal, whilst also retaining a buy-back clause that could bring him back to the Etihad Stadium if desired.

The inclusion of both clauses suggests City are not entirely closing the door on Perrone’s future. The 22-year-old has long been viewed as a technically gifted player capable of thriving in a possession-dominant system — and under the guidance of Cesc Fabregas, he has shown signs of maturing tactically and physically.

There remains a possibility that City could explore the buy-back option if Perrone continues to progress at Como or attracts further interest from top-level European clubs in the coming years. The 30 per cent sell-on clause also ensures that City would benefit financially should Como secure a major profit on the Argentine’s future sale.

With this move, Manchester City continue to manage their young assets with long-term value in mind — maximising immediate return while maintaining future control. For Maximo Perrone, this permanent switch presents the stability needed to build on two successful loan stints and establish himself as a key player in Italy’s top flight.
