Is restricted free agent Philadelphia wing Quentin Grimes going to stay with the team long-term?
As talks drag on between restricted free agent Philadelphia 76ers swingman Quentin Grimes and the team's front office, questions have begun to pop up about his future with the club.
The 6-foot-5 shooting guard stands as one of several intriguing restricted free agents who, facing a market where most rival teams have already spent their money, has lost significant negotiating leverage with their incumbent squads. Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, Chicago Bulls point guard Josh Giddey, and Brooklyn Nets shooting guard Cam Thomas all find themselves in the same boat.
According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line/Substack, Philadelphia hopes to hold on to Grimes for a new deal that will extend at least three seasons. Fischer indicates that a fresh contract is expected at some juncture.
Fischer adds that Giddey's representation, despite much of a market emerging for his services from opposing clubs given that Chicago has matching rights, are holding firm to their demand for an agreement that pays him $30 million annually. Chicago, however, wants to pay him something more in line with $20 million a year.
The Nets could easily carve out $25 million in cap space for next season with which to sign Thomas, meanwhile, but Fischer's sources relay that the Nets haven't had major contract talks with Thomas.

Grimes was a midseason acquisition for Philadelphia, part of the team's trade to get off the contract of Caleb Martin. Playing an increased role on a lottery-bound team, Grimes averaged a career-best 21.9 points on .469/.373/.752 shooting splits, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals in his 28 healthy games for the 76ers (25 starts).
Across five pro seasons, the 25-year-old out of the University of Houston has already played for four times, having made stops on the New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, and Mavericks before joining Philadelphia.
